Médianes Celebrates Its First Anniversary

Exactly one year ago, we—Marine Doux, Christelle Perrin, and Baptiste Thevelein—launched Médi anes with a single goal in mind: to bring new voices to the forefront, for the long term. If we’re celebrating our first anniversary today, it’s thanks to your trust, your support, your words, and your readership. So, quite simply, thank you.

Médianes?

To help these new voices emerge, we support media founders with a strategy, marketing, and creative services tailored to their needs and budgets. And through a free media platform, accessible to everyone, where we share our insights and resources to help launch and manage projects on a daily basis.

Where does our name come from, anyway? Well, when you launch a project, there are many ways to get there. So at Médianes, we help you create your own path. For fans of geometry and Cédric Klapisch, you’ll also find a reference to the movie *Chinese Puzzle*.

In just one year, we’ve laid the groundwork for the project, developed our support studio, and are now launching our resource center.

A year of projects, newsletters, and meetings

Over the past year, the team has grown significantly: Pauline Butel and Margaux Vulliet—project manager and journalist, respectively—joined us in the fall. Marine Slavitch, a journalist, has helped us develop the newsletter, and the team will continue to grow very soon.

In one year, we have supported the development of more than fifty projects, from RFI to La Déferlante, including Euradio, Live Magazine, Les Autres, StreetPress, Génération XX, Mediatico, Books, Novethic, FishEye, and Reporters Without Borders—as well as in their launches: La Disparition, Fondamental, mūsae, as well as La Revue Écossaise, Spetto, Horizon(s), and the Collectif Anti-dotes. We were also able to support some twenty socially conscious media outlets in the Balkans region through CFI.

For the past year, Médianes has also been (sort of) a media outlet: Baptiste and Christelle are its co-founders, alongside Manon Boquen and Benoît Michaëly of *Pays*, a magazine that focuses on a specific region every six months. We like to get our hands dirty and try things out, so we often put them into practice with *Pays*.

Supporting Socially Conscious Media Outlets

For these dedicated media founders, we devise and implement marketing strategies, create websites and newsletters, design visual identities—whether online or in print—and develop subscription offers and pre-sale campaigns. We always strive to find a viable and sustainable business model that is focused on their audiences.

Committed media? Yes. Feminism, diversity, an inclusive and sustainable society: we are proud to support projects whose vision and values we share. This shared commitment extends beyond an editorial line to a model of development: respect for those who shape these projects, organic growth, a virtuous model, and a better distribution of wealth and power: by creating Médianes, we modestly seek to have a positive ecological and social impact, step by step.

Making resources available to help you launch your project

Whether at the Public School of Journalism in Tours or at the European Institute of Journalism in Paris, working with aspiring journalists, and now through our free online resource center, accessible to everyone, we’re committed to passing on and sharing what we learn alongside you: how to actually create a media outlet.

That is why, for the past year, Médianes has also been

a newsletter

which more than 800 of you read every two weeks. A newsletter developed with the talented Marine Slavitch and now written by Margaux Vulliet. In it, we share the best of our industry monitoring, great ideas, and strategies spotted in the media—some closer to home than others—but always adaptable to your projects.

Shall we write the next part together?

We’re not going to lie to you—we didn’t think any of this would work out. It’s true we didn’t get much sleep, but we learned a lot, had a really good time, and most of all, we feel like we were able to help you. And that’s undoubtedly the most precious thing of all. So thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for your trust, for listening to us, for your advice, and for your kindness.

Today marks a new milestone in this publishing adventure. Do you have any feedback, ideas, or suggestions? Let us know! We can’t wait to write the next chapter—with you.
